             Debbie’s Legal and Genealogical Services charges $45.00 per hour for genealogical services.  Rates negotiable for some services.  Time is billed in 15 minute increments.  Expenses are extra, and may include, but are not limited to, long distance telephone calls, copies, faxes, costs related to requests for documents, costs for documents, postage and mileage.

 

             You might include answers to the following questions when you submit requests for research:

 

What is the specific research goal?

Name of the person, family, or topic that you want researched.

When and where they were born?

When and where they lived?

When and where they died and / or were buried?

Who is / was this person or family - their children, their parents, their spouse (s), Military experience, etc.

If the request is more topic focused, what information are you seeking?

Has there been any previous research done?   If so, what?

The more detail you give, the better the research evaluation.

 

             I am happy to provide you with a general estimate of the costs that might be involved in your research request.

 

I typically complete the research in pre-approved steps.

The first step involves correspondence between you and I to refine / define the research.

Step two involves an estimation of the time / costs needed to complete the research.

             I will need your name and mailing address for billing purposes.

Step three, send you the agreed upon research and an invoice for the completed work.

             For broader requests, steps one through three may only involve the background research,

             in which case, step three may evolve into step four.

Step four is correspondence between you and I to refine / further refine the research that has already been done.

Step five involves an estimation of the time / costs needed to complete the additional research.

Step six, send you the agreed upon research and an invoice for the completed work.

 

Broader requests typically begin with background research followed by more specific research where needed.  Broader research requests typically require more research time because they require extensive background research to determine the direction of the research.  If you are able to limit your request to something specific, like reviewing a set of cemetery records for a specific person, looking at land records for a specific property, or photographing a specific burial monument, etc., your costs will also be more limited.

 

In general, the costs could include:

$45 - $135 (1-3 hours; specified record search) plus costs and mileage

$180 - $405 (4-9 hours; intro and general background research) plus costs and mileage

$450 - $900 (10-20 hours; standard research) plus costs and mileage
