Burial's
near old Christiana Post Office ?
Eureka township, Dakota county,
Minnesota:
T113N - R20W, section 21
I was not able to locate the burial
places that were referred to in Rev. Neill's "History of Dakota County and
the city of Hastings"
(page 379). The 1874 Andreas Atlas of Minnesota,
Dakota county, Eureka
township, section 21 also shows this cemetery. As I looked over the maps this
stretch of road, in section 21, has changed and I regret that I was not
able to determine what if anything exists of this old burial place.
Another bit of information that may
be useful to future searchers is the old locations of the Christiana Post
Offices. In "History of Dakota and Goodhue Counties",
by Franklyn, written in 1910, he wrote the following about the postoffices: 'Christiana Post-office was established in
1859 at the house of Dominick Moes, section 19, with
Magnus Sampson as postmaster, and Dominick Moes as
deputy. In 1861 Mr. Sampson enlisted in the Army, when Silas C. Schofield was
appointed postmaster in his stead, and the office was moved to his residence,
where it remained fourteen years, when he resigned and Albert G. Oleson was appointed his successor. He removed the office
to section 21, and opened a small store of general provisions, which he kept
until 1879. The office was discontinued many years ago (page 416).'
