Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery  or Arneson Cemetery ?

Dahlgren Township, Carver County, Minnesota: T115N - R24W, section 29

This cemetery appears to have little or no regular care. Although the fenced area surrounding the cemetery has some size most of the burials are located along the west edge nearest to Carver County Road 41. There is not a church next to the cemetery, nor does the cemetery have any sort of identification sign. The adjoining area, at the corner of Carver County Road 41 and Maplewood Drive, contains an old one room school house.

In "History of the Minnesota Valley" [1882] by Rev. Edward D. Neill, he wrote: ‘... Norwegian Lutheran - Services were held at an early day ... Services were first held in private homes, but afterward in the newly erected school-house of district number 4. ... A cemetery belonging to this organization is located in section 29.’ (page 382).

In the "Compendium of History and Biography of Carver and Hennepin Counties, Minnesota" [1915] edited by Maj. R.I. Holcombe and William H. Bingham, t hey wrote:  "A Norwegian Lutheran congregation was organized in what is now the southwestern part of the township ... held services in private homes until the new schoolhouse was built in the central part of section 29, when meetings were held there.  The cemetery belonging to the association is located near the schoolhouse."  (page 237).

This cemeteries burial monuments were transcribed during the spring of 1998.
